Celebrate Tradition, Creativity, and Community at the second annual
Painted Threads Festival!

HARLEM, NEW YORK, July 8, 2025 - Step into the world of textiles and storytelling at Harlem’s PAINTED THREADS FESTIVAL, Saturday, July 19th, 12pm-5pm, at SAGE Harlem, 220 West 143rd Street, New York, NY 10030, a free, family-friendly Maker Day where generations come together through the art of fabric and design.

"The Painted Threads Festival is where African/American heritage meets hands-on creativity. In the heart of Harlem, we gather generations to preserve traditions, pass on skills, and celebrate the legacy of textile arts as a living, evolving culture,” explains HNA’s executive director, Michelle Bishop.

Harlem Needle Arts in collaboration with SAGE Harlem, you will discover the connections between craftsmanship and identity while celebrating the richness of community.

  • Community Weaving and Quilting, Beyond the Pattern with Tie and Dye, Bead Making and Fabric Collage

  • Explore textile artistry guided by artists Sahara Briscoe, Oluwaseyi Awoyomi, Sylvia Hernandez, Elan Ferguson and Omi Gray.

  • I AM A MAKER – Bring your own project and work independently. Connect with talented artisans and discover handcrafted creations. Portable spinning wheels and looms are welcome.

  • Music for the Soul

This gathering is your chance to slow down, embrace African Diasporic traditions, and create something meaningful together. Whether you're learning, crafting, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, your story is part of this community. We invite you to be with the community and create.
