Greetings, Free and Open to the Public, attend a special literary gathering to meet and celebrate with togetherness, a special book signing event on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM (enter at 5:45 PM) at The Joseph P. Kennedy Community Center (official address) 34 West 134th Street, New York, NY 10031 (enter on 135th/between Fifth and Malcolm X Blvd).* A unique celebration, this get-together introduces the emergence of a group of eight first-time writers into the foray of authorship with their self-published anthology entitled "Throwback Tales, Short Stories and Humorous Reflections."
The evening will open with attendee participation in singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" (lyric sheet provided) and also features a powerful musical performance of "Stand Up" (the theme song from the movie "Harriet") performed by vocalist Andréa Sanders. Following the performance, globally reknown Herb Boyd (so very well identifiable in and to Communities), Journalist, Author, Teacher and Activist will welcome the book's authors into the world of publishing through their "Throwback Tales, Short Stories and Humorous Reflections" book (also now available (unsigned) on internet websites).
In addition, as part of the evening's tribute to the power of the written word, each new author will pay homage to a literary figure who inspired them and then read an excerpt of their writing from the newly published anthology. A segment of this unique literary gathering will present 10-year old Kayden Hern, the New York State Poet Laureate and his published book of poetry from which he will read one of his poems.
Light refreshments will be offered during which time attendees can also meet and greet the authors, engage in Q&A, and acquire a uniquely signed copy of the anthology. At Table #4, meet and greet Greg Mills, also one of the book's authors. He will offer give-aways items on a first-come, first-served basis as well as provide other light bites with the acquisition of "Throwback Tales, Short Stories and Humorous Reflections."
