Teen Paralyzed In Carver Houses Shooting: NYPD Video

Three people were shot during an attempted robbery at a playground in the George Washington Carver Houses, police said.

EAST HARLEM, NY — The NYPD released security footage Wednesday of a shooting at the George Washington Carver Houses development in East Harlem that injured three, leaving one of the victims paralyzed.

Two unidentified men approached a group of nine people on a playground within the Carver Houses shortly after midnight Sunday, police told Patch. The men drew guns on the crowd and demanded that people hand over valuables, police said.

When people refused to hand anything over the two men fired into the crowd of people — which included a 9-year-old boy — before fleeing the scene empty-handed, police told Patch.

Police said the suspects are men with slim buildings, one standing 6-foot-3 and the other standing 5-foot-8. Neither suspect has been identified.

Video of the shooting was captured on a security camera at the public housing development, police said. The video shows that the two suspects — one wearing an orange shirt and the other wearing a brown shirt — appeared to be walking away from the crowd before turning around and opening fire. When the men begin shooting, people can be seen running out of the playground in different directions.

The two shooters are then seen fleeing the playground, according to the NYPD video.
