East Harlem Death Declared Homicide: Police

The death of a man found with facial injuries and a cut to his leg in the Taino Towers has been ruled a homicide.

HARLEM, NY — The city medical examiner's office has declared that the death of a man found in an East Harlem apartment complex suffering from injuries to his face and leg is a homicide, police told Patch.

Theodore Fortune, 40, was found dead on Nov. 23 inside his apartment in the Taino Towers building on Second Avenue and East 122nd Street, police said. Officers discovered the man unconscious and unresponsive suffering from injuries to his face and a laceration to his left leg, police said.

EMS pronounced the man dead on the scene around 9:20 p.m., police told Patch. The death was not declared a homicide until Feb. 16, police said.

The NYPD investigation into the death is ongoing and no arrests have been made, police said.
