Harlem Faith Leaders Denounce Charlottesville Violence: Report
Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith leaders came together in Harlem for spiritual healing.
HARLEM, NY — After racial and religious tensions flared into violence this week in Charlottesville, Virginia, faith leaders assembled in Harlem to denounce intolerance, New York 1 reported.
Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders met Sunday at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem in order to facilitate healing after three were killed this weekend in Chorlettesville, New York 1 reported. Reverend Calvin O. Butts said that President Donald Trump is responsible for some of the rhetoric that led to the violent clash in Virginia.
"I believe, more than at any other time we need to be united against bigotry, and racism, anti-Semitism," Butts said to those gathered, as reported by New York 1. "I believe that now, more than ever, we need to save our nation. Our nation is in danger, and that danger emanates from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue."
