Harlem Gun Buyback To Offer Money For Firearms

Police will offer cash in exchange for firearms — no questions asked — at Saturday's buyback event at a Harlem church.

HARLEM, NY — People can trade in their firearms for cash at a buyback event in Harlem this weekend.

The buyback will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church — 420 West 145th St. in Hamilton Heights.

Organized by the NYPD, police will offer $200 pre-paid cards for operable handguns and assault rifles, and $25 for rifles, shotguns and airguns.

Guns must be handed over in a plastic or paper bag or a box, and firearms being brought in a car must be kept in the trunk, police said. Payments are maxed out at $600, but members of the public can surrender as many guns as they wish.
