Harlem Shooting Suspect Identified, Police Say

HARLEM, NY — The NYPD has identified a suspect wanted in connection with a non-fatal shooting this week in Harlem, police told patch.

Simon Mendez, 34, is suspected of shooting a 25-year-old man early Monday morning in the vicinity of West 122nd Street and Mount Morris Park West — just outside Marcus Garvey Park — police said. Mendez and the victim, who has not been identified, were engaged in a verbal argument before the shooting, police said.

Mendez left the scene for a time before returning shortly before 1 a.m. and shooting the victim in the lower left leg, police told Patch. The victim was treated for non life-threatening wounds at Harlem Hospital, police said.

Mendez (pictured above) stands 5-foot-6 and weighs about 150 pounds, police told Patch. He fled the scene in an unknown direction after the shooting and is still at large, police said.
