Harlem Stage To Host First-Ever Open House

The performing arts venue invites guests to a free open house to kick of its Fall 2017 season.

HARLEM, NY — Performing arts venue Harlem Stage, located at 150 Convent Ave. near West 135th Street, will host its first-ever free open house to kick of its Fall 2017 season.

The open house will be held Sept. 16 from 3-6 p.m. and feature tours of Harlem Stage's Gatehouse Theater, artists meet-and-greet events, a performance by Sundae Sermon’s DJ Stormin Norman and a participatory drum circle.

"Harlem Stage will kick off its Fall season by welcoming the community and inviting all drummers, percussionist, dancers and culture enthusiasts!" read a press release from Harlem Stage.

"Bring your tambourines, djembes, congas, cajone, hand percussion and joy!"

The drum circle will be led by second-year artist in residence Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, according to a press release.

The renowned performing arts venue recently named Monique Martin as new director of programming. Martin plans to "incorporate both the longstanding artistic legacy of Harlem and the larger global arts community" at the venue, according to a press release.

"It is my honor to join this brilliant institution whose history of amplifying and propelling voices, often on the margins, is extraordinary," Martin said in a statement. "We look forward to holding space with you and honoring our humanity."
