Harlem Whole Foods To Open In July

The 39,000-square-foot grocery store will open in a new commercial building on West 125th Street and Lenox Avenue.

HARLEM, NY — Whole Foods Market has officially announced an opening date for its new Harlem location. The 39,000-square-foot Whole Foods — and icon of trendy, expensive and health-conscious grocery shopping — will open on July 21, according to a press release.

New York's newest Whole Foods will open in a brand-new commercial plaza located on the corner of West 125th Street and Lenox Avenue. Whole Foods will open the store with a bread-breaking ceremony at 8:45 a.m., and doors will open at 9 a.m., according to a press release.

Whole Foods announced that it is working with Harlem Park to Park to source local products from more than 100 neighborhood business at its store. The partnership will "make the store a one-stop destination for both Harlem-made goods and high quality grocery staples," according to Whole Foods.

The opening of the store is expected to bring 200 jobs to the neighborhood, according a press release. Whole Foods has partnered with community organizations such as Hot Bread Kitchen to provide the jobs to Harlem residents.

Whole Foods first announced it was hiring about one month ago. Jobs in the bakery, customer service, grocery, meat, prepared foods, produce/floral, seafood, specialty and body departments at the new Whole Foods are accepting applications, according to a job listing. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to work shifts any day of the week.

The Harlem Whole Foods will the be grocery chain's 12th location in New York City, according to a press release. The stores closest to the new location are located on the Upper West Side (Columbus Avenue near West 97th Street) and the Upper East Side (Third Avenue near East 87th Street).
