Update: Man Arrested After Fatal Stabbing in Harlem's Jackie Robinson Houses

HARLEM, NY — A man accused of fatally stabbing a 22-year-old resident of East Harlem's Jackie Robinson Houses was arrested Tuesday, police told Patch.

Jamal Owens, 28, has been charged with second-degree murder for the killing of 22-year-old Tyrell Govan, police said. Owens lives on East 129th Street a block away from the Jackie Robinson Houses, the public housing development where Govan lived and was found stabbed in the chest, police said.

Govan, 22, collapsed in front of the door to his mother's apartment in the housing complex Monday night after suffering a stab wound that would prove to be fatal, police said.

Govan was discovered by one of his mother's neighbors in front of her door on the 6th floor of the Jackie Robinson Houses, a public housing development located near East 128th Street and Lexington Avenue, an NYPD spokeswoman told Patch. When first responders arrived around 6 p.m. Govan was conscious but not responsive, police said.

Govan was transported to Harlem Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police told Patch.

The fatal stabbing is still being investigated by the NYPD. No arrests have been made.
