Man Charged 2 Weeks After Fatal Shooting Outside Harlem Smoke Shop

Justin Deprospo was taken into custody Monday and charged in connection with the death of 32-year-old Burnie Pleasant​, police said.

HARLEM, NY — Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a fatal Nov. 15 shooting outside a Harlem smoke shop, according to New York City police.

Justin Deprospo, 27, of the Bronx, was taken into custody around 10:45 p.m. Monday and charged with first-degree murder and possession of a weapon in connection with the death of 32-year-old Burnie Pleasant, according to police.

The arrest came two weeks after the shooting, which happened shortly after 9 p.m. outside the Gourmet & Organic smoke shop at 217 W. 116 St.

According to police, Pleasant suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. He was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he later died, police said.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Deprospo's arrangement in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending Tuesday.
