Man Critically Injured In Morningside Heights Hit And Run, Police Say
The 19-year-old victim was walking on Riverside Drive early Monday morning when he was struck by a hit and run driver.
MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NY — A young man suffered critical injuries Monday morning after being struck by a hit and run driver in Morningside Heights, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.
The 19-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was walking in the intersection of Riverside Drive and West 115th Street around 12:25 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle driving north on Riverside Drive, police told Patch. Police responded to the scene and discovered the victim suffering critical injuries to the head and legs, police said.
The victim was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in critical condition, police said. The victim's current condition could not be confirmed by police. Multiple reports have stated the victim is a student at Columbia University, but the NYPD were unable to confirm this detail with Patch.

The driver did not stay on the scene of the collision, police told Patch. The NYPD investigation into the collision is ongoing and no arrests have been made, an NYPD spokesman said. The vehicle is as an "older model red four door sedan," which may have a damaged front windshield, police told Patch.
Police released video footage of the moments before the collision on Monday afternoon. The victim can be seen walking in the intersection, unaware of the vehicle approaching him. The victim takes about five steps into the intersection before turning his attention to the vehicle, which is about to strike him, according to the NYPD video. It is unkown who had the right of way, police said.
