Man Dies After Jump From Harlem Overpass Into Fairway Parking Lot: Police

The man was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders, police said.

HARLEM, NY — A man died Tuesday after jumping from an overpass into a Harlem Fairway Market's parking lot, police told Patch.

The man plunged from the overpass near West 131st Street and 12th Avenue around 5:11 p.m., police said. When first responders arrived on the scene the man was pronounced dead, police said.

Police told Patch they believe the man jumped.

A Fairway employee was in the parking lot to witness the incident, and recounted his story to the Daily News.

"We're all loading up the van, getting our groceries ready for delivery and all of a sudden we hear a loud boom," David Alvarez, 38, told the Daily News. "Then there's a dude on the bridge yelling, 'He jumped!' and asking if we saw him down there."
