Man, 67, Dies 3 Weeks After East Harlem Brawl, Police Say

EAST HARLEM, NY — A 67-year-old man has died of his injuries three weeks after a violent brawl in East Harlem, New York City Police Department officials said Sunday.

According to the NYPD, the fight broke out on Aug. 24 at 9:45 p.m. in front of the George Washington Carver Houses complex in East Harlem on East 102nd Street between Second and Third avenues.

Edwin Jimenez, who lived on East 115th Street, suffered head injuries in the fight and was knocked unconscious, police said. Jimenez died of his injuries on Sept. 11.

Jose Santiago, 52, was stabbed multiple times during the encounter, police said.

Both men were arrested on the scene and charged with assault. Santiago was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Medics rushed both men to Mount Sinai Morningside, where Santiago was listed in stable condition and Jimenez was listed in critical condition.

The medical examiner’s office has not yet released the cause of death, police said.

It's not clear what led up to the fight, police said. The investigation is underway, police said.
