Man Found Dead In West Harlem Apartment, Police Say

The man's roommate came home and found him dead inside the apartment, police told Patch.

HARLEM, NY — Police are investigating the death of a man found by his roommate in their West Harlem apartment, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

The man's body was found around 11:15 a.m. in an apartment on Amsterdam Avenue between West 134th and 135th streets, police told Patch. The 49-year-old man, who has not been identified, was unconscious and unresponsive, but not suffering from visible trauma, police said.

EMS declared the man dead on the scene, police told Patch.

The man's body was first discovered by his roommate, who initially though the man was simply intoxicated, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. After realizing something was wrong, the roommate called police, an NYPD spokesman said.

The city's medical examiner will investigate the case to determine an official cause of death.
