Man Gets 50 Year Prison Sentence for 'Violent Rampage' That Targeted 3 Women: DA
A man convicted of brutally attacking three women within an hour will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.

HARLEM, NY — A man convicted of brutally assaulting three women in Central Harlem was sentenced to 52 years to life in state prison Thursday, according to the Manhattan District Attorney (DA).
Edward Major, 57, will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars for his violent actions on April 1, 2015. On that day Major attacked three different woman — seemingly at random — within the same hour, according to the DA's office.
The first attack occurred around 7:45 p.m. when Major passed a 34-year-old woman on West 111th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, according to the DA. Major punched the woman in the face, knocking her to the ground, and continued to hit her while she was down. The woman eventually escaped and the police, according to the DA.

Around 40 minutes later Major assaulted a 59-year-old woman in the lobby of an apartment building on Saint Nicholas Avenue less than a block from the first attack, the DA's office said. As the woman opened her mailbox Major hit her in the head and knocked her down, according to the DA. Major continued to hit and kick the woman while she laid on the floor, the DA's office said. The woman was able to escape into her apartment and seek medical treatment for extensive bruising on her face and body, according to the DA.
Ten minutes later Major jumped out at a 45-year-old woman from behind a parked car on West 112th Street, near Frederick Douglass Boulevard, according to the DA. Major knocked her to the ground and began hitting and kicking her until passersby intervened. The woman suffered a broken nose during the attack, according to the DA.

Twenty minutes later police officers patrolling West 111th Street arrested Major after matching him to a description of the attacker heard over their radios, according to the DA.
Major was convicted of 10 felony counts on charges such as second-degree assault, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and third-degree assault.
