Man Robs Harlem Bank, Escapes With More Than $3K: Police

HARLEM, N Y — Police are searching for a man who robbed a bank Monday afternoon in the Hamilton Heights section of Harlem, getting away with thousands in cash.

The man entered a Chase Bank branch on the corner of Broadway and West 144th Street around 3:30 p.m. and passed a note to a bank teller, police told Patch. The note allegedly demanded that the teller pass over money to the man, police said.

The teller complied, and handed the man $3,054 in cash, police told Patch. The man then fled the bank on foot in an unknown direction, police said.

The suspected bank robber is described as standing about 5-foot-7 and weighing around 200 pounds, police said. At the time of the bank robbery the man was wearing a white knit hat, sunglasses and what appears to be a brown jacket, according to surveillance photos released by police.
