Man Snatches Gold Chain From 61-Year-old in Harlem: Police

The chain-snatcher held a door open for the elderly man before grabbing the chain from his neck.

HARLEM, NY — Chivalry is already dead, but a Harlem mugger just killed it again. While pretending to hold a door open for an elderly man using a walker, the mugger reached around and snatched the 61-year-old's gold chain, police told Patch.

The theft occurred Monday around 1:40 p.m. within the doorway of the old man's Harlem apartment building, police said. During the robbery the old man was shoved to the ground, but did not suffer any serious injuries.

Police describe the chain snatcher as 5-foot-10 and around 200 pounds. The robber was last seen wearing a tan hat, white sneakers and a multi-colored shirt.
