'Moonlight' Director To Film In Harlem: Report
"Moonlight" director Barry Jenkins is adapting James Baldwin's "If Beale Street Could Talk" to film.

HARLEM, NY — The director behind 2016's Academy Award-winning "Moonlight" will begin filming his next movie this month in Harlem, according to a report.
Barry Jenkins will shoot an adaptation of James Baldwin's novel “If Beale Street Could Talk” on Edgecombe Avenue, DNAinfo first reported. Jenkins informed the community of his decision to film in Harlem during a Wednesday night community board meeting, according to the report.
The decision to shoot the movie in Harlem was made for authenticity's sake, Jenkins said during the meeting.

"Normally, when you do a film like this you can go to Vancouver or Toronto and find a place that looks like Harlem, Jenkins said as reported by DNAinfo. "But it was the wish of the Baldwin estate and a wish of myself, as a creator, that we do it here in Harlem."
