Oldest Person In America Dies At 114

Alelia Murphy, a resident of Harlem, was born in July 1905 and celebrated her 114th birthday in July.

HARLEM, NY — The United States' oldest person has died at 114. Alelia Murphy, a resident of Harlem, was born in July 1905 and celebrated her 114th birthday this year.

The 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East shared the news of Murphy's death Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at the United House of Prayer for All People in Harlem.

CNN reported that Murphy was born in North Carolina and moved to Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance.

The Gerontology Research Group now lists Hester Ford as the oldest person in the United States. Ford was also born in 1905 and is age 114.
