On Tuesday December 19, Police Athletic League (PAL) youngsters enjoyed festivities at its annual holiday party at the Harlem Center. Boys and girls received toys and participated in arts and crafts, such as building gingerbread houses, making holiday cards for patients at a children's hospital and creating ornaments. The Harlem Globetrotters also stopped by for a special performance.

Celebrate International Jazz Month with live music, dancing, and good vibes that'll take you right back to the legendary Savoy Ballroom. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or just love jazz, this is the place to be. Let's stomp, sway, and spin the night away!Jessie Redmon Fauset sculpted African American literature in the 1920's supporting the careers of Harlem Renaissance luminaries Langston Hughes, Jean Toomer, Countee Cullen, Nella Larson and Claude McKay among others. In a biographical note the ardent Francophile Fauset shared, "Like the French, I adore dancing." Actually, it turns out that W. E. B. DuBois danced. Countee Cullen danced. Dorothy West danced and more. In honor of the many Harlem Renaissance writers and artists who danced at The Savoy Ballroom (1926-1958) and other places, this event is held in their memory. Fittingly, April is International Jazz Month and in the vein of The Savoy Ballroom's tradition, two bands - The Chris McBride Band and The Eyal Vilner Swing Band will have everyone stomping back to the days of the legendary ballroom!To get everyone moving, Sam Coleman and Candice Franklin-Cox will bring your toe-tapping up to speed with instruction on swing dance basics.Bring friends, have a good time and keep Countee Cullen's poem, She of the Dancing Feet in mind.And what would I do in heaven, pray,Me with my dancing feet,And limbs like apple boughs that swayWhen the gusty rain winds beat?

Seven seriously funny kids from across the tri-state area are taking the stage and they are ready to make your whole family laugh. Welcome this lovely season with Leonard Bernstein's dramatic Chichester Psalms, sung in Hebrew, and Benjamin Britten's lively Rejoice in the Lamb, sung in English. Performed by the Canterbury Choral Society, led by Jonathan De Vries, with full chorus and orchestra and massive percussion. Francis Poulenc's Organ Concerto performed by Alistair Reid rounds out this entertaining program.&nbsp; Soloists are Hannah Spierman, soprano, Bess Morrison, Mezzo-Soprano, Ethan Fran, Tenor, Christoper Tefft, Bass. Marble Collegiate Church

Joan Lunden, award-winning journalist, bestselling author and longtime host of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” will kick off “Inspired Conversations With…” Marble Collegiate Church’s new series featuring notable thought leaders on Thursday, April 30, 6 p.m. in the historic Sanctuary at 1 W. 29th Street in New York City.
Lunden will share stories from her newest book, Joan: Life Beyond the Script, during a memorable evening to be moderated by Faye Wattleton, longtime Marble member, former president of Planned Parenthood, author, speaker and a leading voice in protecting women’s rights. 
In Lunden’s memoir, she discusses breaking barriers in broadcast journalism, redefining motherhood and courageously sharing her breast cancer journey to advocate for women’s health and caregiving. Her story is one of resilience, reinvention and living boldly at every stage of life. Following this conversation, Lunden will sign her book, which is included in the $25 in-person admission.

MADC is elated to be premiering current company artist Ellicia Clayton’s new work, Come Sunday; the reimagining of the deconstructed repertory work, Thoughts; an audience favorite, Sweet Seventies’ Suite; and the premiere of Legacy. Ellicia Clayton’s Come Sunday investigates the following questions in her 5 section work: Have you ever questioned Salvation? Is it ever too late to be saved? Thoughts examines how we see ourselves, what ways that we show up for ourselves, and practices that cultivate self-love. Sweet Seventies' Suite explores grief, loss, and joy towards a loved one who transitioned to the spiritual realm. Legacy is rooted in joy as a form of resistance. It fosters pride and a positive sense of self by highlighting the valuable aspects of Black people from the First Great Migration, the first Harlem Renaissance, and the second Harlem Renaissance.
Please note that Speyer Hall @ University Settlement is ADA accessible with a wheelchair ramp for entry into the building, an elevator, and wheelchair access for seating.
