ICYMI: Special Needs School Leases Space In East Harlem Public Housing Building
Pathways Children's Services — which has a Lower East Side Campus — will build a new school in the Carver Houses.
EAST HARLEM, NY — A school for children with special needs has signed a long-term lease with the New York City Housing Authority to construct a school facility in an East Harlem public housing development, according to the real estate firm that helped broker the deal.
Pathways Children’s Services — which currently operates a school campus in the Lower East Side — will construct a "state of the art facility" in 1445 Madison Ave., New Street Realty Advisors, LLC announced. The Madison Avenue building is part of the George Washington Carver Houses.
The lease is for five years with a five-year renewal option, a NYCHA spokesperson told Patch.

Pathway Children’s Services will perform the necessary construction to transform the 2,947 square-foot space into a school facility.

Pathways "provides educational and therapeutic services to children with special needs," according to a New Street Realty Advisors press release. The school was drawn to the Madison Avenue space because it's across the street from Mount Sinai hospital.
