Vomit Forces Evacuation of Harlem Subway Station

HARLEM, NY — Seven people were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after getting sick due to the smell of vomit on the platform of the 125th Street subway station on Lexington Avenue in Harlem.

The vomit's stench was so pervasive that around 9:15 the subway station was evacuated and trains bypassed the station for around 30 minutes, the New York Post reported.

The Post reported that a passenger vomited on the platform of the station — which serves the 4, 5 and 6 lines — shortly after 9 a.m. and that as passengers got off later trains they experienced illness. Passengers reportedly experiences breathing problems and lightheadedness due to the smell of the vomit, the Daily News reported.

Seven people — including the person who vomited — were treated at Harlem Hospital, according to both reports.

While the station was closed emergency services units conducted air quality tests in the station, which came back negative, the Post reported. Service in the station resumed around 9:56 a.m., according to the MTA.

A spokesperson from the FDNY has not returned Patch's message.
