Woman Put In Chokehold, Punched During East Side Robbery: NYPD

EAST HARLEM, NY — Police are searching Wednesday for a suspect who attacked and robbed a woman of her cellphone on East 105th Street, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the victim, a 36-year-old woman, was walking at the intersection of East 105th Street and FDR Drive on Aug. 2 at 10 p.m. when a man came up from behind and put her in a chokehold.

The man kicked and punched the woman in the face and body, knocking her to the ground, police said.

Once on the ground, the man stole the woman's cellphone and then ran away in an unknown direction, police said.

Medics took the victim to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition.

Police are searching for the perpetrator and have released surveillance photos of the suspect.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning, according to the NYPD.

The investigation remains ongoing.
