Woman Shot in Harlem Public Housing Building's Elevator: Police

HARLEM, NY — A woman was sent to the hospital Sunday suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg after a man shot up an elevator in a Harlem apartment building, police told Patch.

The suspect entered one of the towers in the Drew-Hamilton Houses — a New York City Housing Authority development located at 200 W. 123rd St. — around 1 a.m. Sunday and fired four shots into one of the building's elevators, police said. A 20-year-old woman was hit in the leg, police said.

The victim was treated for her injuries at New York Presbyterian Columbia, police told Patch.

The suspect is described as a man with a thin build who was wearing all black at the time of the shooting, police said. The suspect used a silver handgun during the shooting, police told Patch.
