32 Families Displaced In Harrison Apartment Building Fire
The American Red Cross was called to assist residents to find temporary housing & displaced residents were taken to the Sollazzo Center.
HARRISON, NY — As the holiday weekend approaches, neighbors in Harrison found themselves unexpectedly in need of a helping hand.
On Tuesday, around 5:30 p.m., the Harrison Fire Department responded to a commercial alarm at 3 Calvert St. The call was soon upgraded to a structure fire, according to fire officials. Arriving on the scene, Harrison firefightes began to stretch hand lines into the building while also evacuating the residents. Additional manpower then arrived on the scene.
When the fire was located, calls to dispatch mutual aid units to the scene, as well as units to the Harrison fire station to cover the district, were made. The Harrison Fire Department was assisted by the Purchase Fire Department, the West Harrison Fire Department, the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department, the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department, the Port Chester Fire Department, the Rye Fire Department, Batallion 19, Harrison EMS, Harrison PD, Con Ed, Valhalla Rehab, the American Red Cross and the Humane Society of Westchester at New Rochelle. The Village of Mamaroneck L21 and the Town of Mamaroneck E51 stood by at Harrison FD headquarters.

According to Jim Killoran of the Fuller Center for Housing of Greater NYC, residents from 32 apartments were displaced.
The American Red Cross was called to assist residents to find temporary housing. According to the Red Cross, residents were taken to the Sollazzo Center (Harrison Recreation Department) at 270 Harrison Ave.

The Humane Society of Westchester at New Rochelle asssisted with temporary animal housing. Firefighters and shelter staff were able to remove 18 cats after the fire had been extinguished and bring them to safety at the Humane Society.
