Community Corner

Volunteers Invited to Serve at Local Soup Kitchen

Are you ready to give back?

Would you like to help serve the less fortunate in our community once a month?

If your answer is yes, All Saints Church, Harrison invites you to join its Outreach Committee in providing a mid-day Saturday meal to our hungriest neighbors in Port Chester. We serve at the Carver Center, located in the rear of YMCA building on Westchester Avenue in Port Chester. The Dinner at Noon program serves the hungry in Port Chester, Harrison and surrounding towns.

Community member Maureen Britt reports that volunteering for the soup kitchen is, “meaningful because I feel that I am making a difference in people’s lives while I have fun working with neighbors who care.”

Outreach volunteers have the opportunity to prepare meals ahead of time, cook on site, serve the dinner guests, pick up donations from area restaurants and/or contribute grocery items in support of the program. Adults and teens are welcome to participate. Meal dates for Saturdays during the 2011-2012 season are: October 15, January 7, February 25, April 7, May 19, June 2 and June 30.

Interested community members are invited to call Donna Donato c/o All Saints Church at 914-835-4716 for further information or, email office@allsaintsharrison.com. High School Community Service Hours may be awarded if desired.
