UPDATE: Menacing and other Charges in Purchase College Lockdown

A New Rochelle resident was taken into custody after a dispute led to reports of a man with a gun on campus.

UPDATE: Jean-Pierre Filtcher of New Rochelle has been charged with Menacing Second Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and Disorderly Conduct in connection with an incident at Purchase College that led to a campus-wide lockdown and police search.

Filtcher, 24, is not a student at the school, but there was apparently a dispute at a student event, college officials said. Students received an alert about a potential armed person at the school at 8:45 p.m. Sunday.

An arrest has been made in an incident that forced the lockdown Sunday night of the Purchase College campus in Harrison.

Purchase officials said Jean-Pierre Filtcher, 24, of New Rochelle, was arrested after fleeing the campus following a dispute at a student event. The investigation is ongoing.

Purchase President Thomas J. Schwarz said he commended the police for their professionalism in quickly responding to the incident.

“We followed the protocols in place to alert the community on a timely basis, including the activation of NY Alert,” he said.

“As a result of our efforts, no one was hurt and the campus remained safe and secure,” Schwarz said.

Chief Dayton Tucker, interim chief of police of the New York State University Police, said he was pleased to announced an arrest had been made.

“I want to thank all of our police officers as well as those from throughout the county who quickly responded to our community,” he said.
