County Executive Orders Flags to Half-Staff for Nancy Reagan

Federal and state buildings are also lowering flags in memory of the former First Lady.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino ordered flags at county buildings to half-staff in memory of former First Lady Nancy Reagan, who died at her home in California of congestive heart failure.

"We are saddened by the loss of our former First Lady, Nancy Reagan, but are warmed by the thought of her blessed reunion with the love of her life, President Reagan," Astorino said in the announcement. "Mrs. Reagan served the nation with class, grace and dignity and contributed mightily to noble causes such as the fight against drugs and the fight to find a cure for Alzheimer’s. She will be deeply missed.”

U.S. flags nationwide also were lowered to half-staff in honor of Reagan, who died Sunday. She was 94. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo as well directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff from March 8 through the date of interment.

“Born in Queens, Nancy Reagan was committed to improving the lives of others, and her legacy will no doubt be felt for decades to come,” Cuomo said in a statement. “As we mourn the former First Lady’s passing, I am directing that flags on all state government buildings be flown at half-staff to honor her life and her many contributions to our nation.”
