A Valentine's Treat: Two Spoons Full Of Shakespeare and a Pinch of Romance = Love’s Fire

Purchase College Repertory Theater Presents Love’s Fire, Assorted Short Plays by Some of America’s Most Popular Playwrights, Inspired by the Bard’s Sonnets

“The course of true love ne’er did run smooth” — Shakespeare reminds us — so who better to inspire a collection of short plays about love? From a psychiatry session gone off the rails, to an engaged couple learning just a bit too much about one another on their wedding eve, modern love’s twists and turns are vividly portrayed in Love’s Fire, a presentation by the Purchase College Repertory Theater, that includes short plays by some of America’s most popular award-winning playwrights: Eric Bogosian, William Finn, John Guare, Tony Kushner, Marsha Norman, Ntozake Shange, and Wendy Wasserstein.

Says Greg Taylor, Director of the Purchase College Conservatory of Theatre Arts, “The plays are fascinating not only for taking a contemporary look at classic material — they are also extremely diverse in their presentation of love and relationships.”

Love’s Fire will be presented at the college’s Performing Arts Center on February 10th at 8pm, February 11th at 2pm and 8pm, February 12th at 2pm, February 16th-17th at 8pm, and February 18th at 2pm and 8pm. 

The nationally renowned Purchase College School of the Arts-Conservatory of Theatre Arts produces successful theatre professionals through a uniquely immersive four-year program.
