Walt Disney’s captivating fairy tale, Cinderella, has warmed the heart and sparked the imagination of every child in America who has seen it; but, few of us know that the animated story of the glass slipper, Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming and the evil Stepmother is derived from a 1698 story by Charles Perrault, which also influenced a four-act French opera, called Cendrillon, first performed in Paris in 1899.
Westchester and Connecticut audiences will have the rare opportunity to see and hear this humorous and witty opera, by Jules Massenet, at Purchase College, SUNY March 22-25, performed by the Purchase Opera’s students.
