The Puzzled Picture

 

American artist Stuart Davis made pictures that distilled what he saw in the world into patterned shapes that lock together like a jigsaw puzzle. How can you transform everyday things and scenes into shapes and patterns that create a unique and flexible puzzled picture?

1-3 pm: Guided tours of the new exhibition "American Vanguards: John Graham, Stuart Davis, Arshile Gorky, Willem de Kooning and Their Circle, 1927-1942" (it's a long title for a fantastic show!)

1-4 pm: Kids will get to know the early stages of abstraction when they create their own changeable puzzle-collage artwork.

 

2:30-3:30 pm: Purchase College jazz combo performs music Stuart Davis might have listened to in the 1930's.

 

Family First Saturdays offers art experiences for the whole family. Workshops for ages tots to ten, accompanied by an adult.
