Friends of Crawford Park Debuts Classical Music Program

Furuya Sisters Trio to perform on Sunday, March 22 at 3pm

In a slight break from the usual fare, the Friends of Crawford Park will present the Furuya Sisters Trio on Sunday, March 22 at 3pm. The Furuya Sisters will perform Tchaikovsky Piano Trio in A Minor, Op. 50 I. Pezzo elegiaco II. A. Tema con Variazioni: Tema & Variazioni I – XI and Mozart Trio in E Major KV 542 I. Allegro. Tickets are $15 for adults and $9 for children (age 16 and under). At the door, tickets are $20 for adults and $14 for children. Doors open at 2pm. Refreshments are available at the show, including coffee, tea, and baked goods. Parking is free.


Previously, “Music at the Mansion” events have been Saturday night affairs, that featured folk and rock artists, but the group wanted to try something “new and different” to introduce a new audience to this beautiful setting. Proceeds from Music at the Mansion events go toward the beautification of the park and mansion.


Sisters Mimi Furuya on cello, Sakiko Furuya on piano and Harumi Furuya on violin have achieved stunning accomplishments in their careers. Mimi has toured extensively throughout Western Europe and across the U.S. She has received numerous prizes and awards including first prize at the NY American String Teachers Association Solo Competition and second prize at the 41st International Sorantin Competition. Her compositions have been performed by the Juilliard Orchestra and the American Brass Quintet. Sakiko has been delighting audiences since her California debut at age 8. She has performed extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe and was the featured performer in the Salzburg Seminar Series in Schloß Leopoldskron in Salzburg, Austria. She has won first prizes at many solo and concerto competitions in New York, including the US National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts and the Gina Bachauer Memorial Scholarship Competition at Juilliard. Her compositions have been performed several times at Paul Hall at Juilliard. She has appeared as soloist with the Bloomingdale Chamber Orchestra, the Yonkers Philharmonic, and the Chappaqua Orchestra. Harumi began studying violin at age 2 and has pursued violin studies in Boston, London, Paris and Berlin. She is a scholar of history having received an A.B. in history with highest honors from Harvard University, an M. Phil in European Studies from the University of Cambridge in addition to numerous other prizes and fellowships for her academic skill. Harumi has performed in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City, Dvorak Hall in Prague, Liszt Academy in Budapest, Royal British Legion in Cambridge, and Westminster Abbey in London. The sisters are the great grandnieces of Prime Minister Baron Kijuro Shidehara who was responsible for Article 9 (Peace Clause) of the Japanese Constitution. www.furuyasisters.com

Crawford Park is a 36 acre preserve located in Rye Brook, NY. Originally the estate of the Crawford family, the grounds and mansion were donated to the Town of Rye in 1971. The park contains an early 20th century mansion many mature trees, an expansive lawn, a playground, a large picnic pavilion and sunken garden. Friends of Crawford Park was established in 1996 and is a nonprofit organization dedicated the beautification of the park grounds and preservation of the Crawford’s legacy. Concerts take place in the historic Crawford mansion and happen approximately bimonthly. Previous shows have featured Jill Sobule, Sloan Wainwright, Jesse Harris and Bill Kirchen.
