Carlos Alomar to Deliver Provost’s Distinguished Lecture at Manhattanville
October 7, 2016 Purchase, NY -- Carlos Alomar, famed guitarist and musical director for David Bowie for over 20years, will speak about inspiration and the creative process at a public lecture and mini-performance at Manhattanville College on Tuesday, October 18 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Alomar’s talk, titled “The Intuitive Heart of the Analytical Mind: My Odyssey to Creativity,” part of the Provost’s Distinguished Lecture Series, will be held in Reid Castle, and is free and open to the public.
In his talk, Alomar, also a songwriter and educator, will discuss the potential conflicts between rational analysis and intuitive feelings, especially as they come to bear on the creation and performance of music. Drawing upon his long experience in the world of music entertainment and performance, Alomar will share some of the details of his storied career, ranging from his early days as house musician for the Apollo Theater, through his more than 20-year association with David Bowie.

With 32 international gold and platinum records to his credit, Carlos Alomar is best known as long-time guitarist and musical director for David Bowie, with whom he shares writing credit, along with John Lennon, for Bowie’s first #1 hit, “Fame.” Other artists Alomar has worked with include James Brown, Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Alicia Keyes, and Beck. He currently holds the position of Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. For two years, he served as president of the New York chapter of the Recording Academy, the organization responsible for the Grammy Awards.
