Harrison High School Relay For Life Raises More Than $108,000 For American Cancer Society
The community event is organized by Harrison students, parents and teachers.

HARRISON, NY — Harrison High School hosted its 3rd annual Relay For Life event June 3-4, raising money for the American Cancer Society. The community event, organized by Harrison students, parents and teachers, raised more than $108,000.
The efforts were led by Kaitlin Chieco, of the American Cancer Society, Allison Blunt, teacher at Harrison High School, and the Relay Event Leadership Team, a group comprised of juniors and seniors at Harrison High.
Attendees participated in a series of events that honored cancer survivors and caretakers. Relay for Life is a 12 hour event (7pm to 7am) to signify the journey from darkness to light that a cancer patient takes.

Prior to the start of Relay For Life, cancer survivors and their caretakers were invited to a special Survivors Dinner. The event then kicked off with heartwarming and inspirational speeches from a cancer survivor and patient from the Harrison community. At midnight, in total darkness, a Luminaria ceremony was held. Each Luminaria bag represented a loved one lost to cancer or still fighting.
