Harrison Named a Top Place to Start a Business in New York
New rankings put several lower Hudson Valley communities in the top places for starting a business in the state.

Harrison is the one of the best places to start a business in New York State, according to new rankings released Monday by NerdWallet.
The site analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau to rank the business climate and economic health of 83 New York communities. NerdWallet restricted its analysis to areas with populations above 5,000.
Four of the top 10 are in the lower Hudson Valley.

Harrison came in at No. 5 on their list and was the top Westchester community to be ranked. In Harrison, businesses take in an average annual revenue of $3.2 million, and the unemployment rate is 4.5 percent.

Harrison is an affluent town and village about 25 miles northeast of Midtown Manhattan in Westchester County. Harrison businesses bring in average revenue of $4.2 million per business each year. Harrison is headquarters to large corporations, including Transamerica Retirement Solutions, Atlas Air Worldwide, PepsiCo and MasterCard, which are all in the hamlet of Purchase. The hamlet is also home to Manhattanville College and SUNY Purchase College.

- Glens Falls
- Harrison
- White Plains
- Ithaca
- Rockville Centre
- Mount Kisco
- Watertown
Other lower Hudson Valley communities with high rankings included Rye, Tarrytown, Scarsdale, Mamaroneck, Dobbs Ferry, New Rochelle, Port Chester, Yonkers, Haverstraw, Ossining, Peekskill, West Haverstraw, Mount Vernon and Spring Valley.
