Help For Outages; Halloween Event, Tips: Harrison Mayor's Column
plus the next Lunch With The Mayor will be at Sophia's.

From Mayor Ron Belmont
I would like to take this time to recognize Harrison residents Dennis Nardone and Joe Carnevalla. At this year’s Italian Heritage Luncheon, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce honored individuals who displayed dedication and commitment to excellence in their contributions to the Bronx. As host of a radio program, Dennis Nardone has promoted many Bronx events and as the owner of Sassone Wholesale Groceries, Joe Canevalla has made many charitable contributions, donating food to organizations serving those in
need. Congratulations to both men for their efforts and generosity.
Recently, I attended Con Edison’s Post Storm Review and the utility company is sharing information that includes instructions on how to sign up for text alerts. This alert system will help get the word out and assist with Con Ed’s efforts to improve the accuracy and timeliness of information during and after storms. By the end of this year, Con Ed will be able to automatically enroll customers in a texting initiative. Customers will be able to opt out of this program. Weather warning and preparation information will be sent before a storm arrives. Once customers are enrolled, and report their outage to the company, Con Ed will send them system and safety updates, including their estimated time of restoration. Con Ed is encouraging customers to sign up for text alerts today. Customers can use their cell phone to text REG to OUTAGE (688243) and follow the prompts. Customers will need their account number and will need to confirm their zip code. To retrieve account numbers, customers should visit www.coned.com and log in to My Account or check their bill. This information is also located on Con Ed’s website at coned.com/text .

It’s that festive time of year when children will be getting dressed up as their favorite characters from books, television shows and movies to become princesses, superheroes and monsters. On Saturday, October 27th (rain date October 28th), from 3:30-5:00 PM in Ma Riis Park, the Harrison Recreation Department will be presenting Halloween Bash in the Park. This event is for Pre-K to 5 th Grade only and will include a magic show, a DJ, treat give-a- ways and rides. Children are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy a fun filled afternoon. For more information, please call 670-3039.
On a related note, I would like to remind all residents to please be mindful of the following Halloween safety tips: Attach reflective strips to all costumes. Don’t allow young children to trick-or-treat alone, have them go with a parent or trusted adult. Parents, or accompanying adults, should carry flashlights or lanterns. Make sure costumes and masks fit properly to avoid obstruction of vision and trip hazards. Be aware of traffic, use sidewalks when possible, and look both ways before crossing streets. Avoid walking near lit candles or luminaries. Whenever possible, costumes should be made out of flame resistant materials. Parents should inspect all candy and treats.
