HHS Business Club Earns Outstanding Results at DECA Competition

Students Advance to the State Competition in March

The members of the Harrison High School Business Club competed at the DECA Regional Competition recently held at the Rockland Community College and over 80% of Harrison’s students placed in the top 4 of their individual events and are now eligible to compete in the State competition.

As an integral part of the classroom curriculum, DECA’s industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism, according to the organization. DECA’s flagship evaluation process involves students in both a written component such as an exam or report and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge. DECA’s competitive events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school.

Involvement in the Harrison High School Business club has nearly tripled in the last three years with a few of its members advancing to the national competition in the previous two years of its existence. The 37 students from this year’s regional competition will now be moving on to compete at the State competition on March 4th, 5th, and 6th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
