HHS Katie Cole Receives Award at stArt Exhibition 2019
Harrison High School sophomore is awarded Certificate of Excellence at Regional High School Arts Exhibit

Congratulations to Harrison High School sophomore Katie Cole who received a Certificate of Excellence at the 13th Annual Regional High School Arts Exhibition (stArt). The OSilas Gallery at Concordia College was once again the showcase for the annual exhibition of artwork created by talented high school students from over 30 regional public and private high schools across Westchester, Fairfield, Rockland and Orange Counties and the Bronx. Works ranged from paintings to photography to ceramics.
Katie’s work titled “Lydia” was submitted by her HHS photography teach Sarah Palefsky. She was one of seven artists to receive this accolade. The following is the student’s bio that was submitted to the stArt committee:
Katie’s deep interest in photography really took off when her grandpa gave her his film camera four years ago. Ever since, she’s been using film and taking her Minolta 35 wherever she goes. To this day, Katie still prefers film because it feels more honest than digital photography in her mind. In film photography, every shot counts, each photo has added value and meaning. Film presents a different aesthetic than digital with its added grain. Most of her photography comes from traveling on volunteer trips, such as Ho, Ghana to volunteer at a local school and Ecuador to work with an animal rehabilitation center. In these volunteer trips, she uses photography to document different people and culture, and to preserve her memories.
