HHS Yearbook Receives Certificate of Excellence

The Harrison High School Yearbook was recognized in the 2018 Lifetouch Yearbook Showcase Contest

Congratulations to the Harrison High School Yearbook editors, staff, and faculty advisors on receiving the 2018 Lifetouch Yearbook Showcase Contest Certificate of Excellence award.

Yearbooks were evaluated on the following criteria: theme/theme development, design, continuity, photography, writing, creativity content, and coverage.

“Inspired by our theme, “Pause, Play, Rewind”, we engaged readers with augmented reality experiences tucked throughout the book,” said HHS Yearbook faculty advisor Sarah Palefsky. “By downloading a free app, our audience could locate trigger photos that would launch a student video, digital illustration, or concert footage. This interactive feature was a new way to incorporate cutting-edge technology and bring memories to life.”

The main focus of the HHS Yearbook was to not only capture the memories of the year but the team hopes this award will help people to see how the yearbook is a vehicle for creative expression.

Senior Michael Canno, highlighting his experience as editor-in-chief, said, “Our yearbook theme, “Pause, Play, Rewind”, epitomized my year as Editor-in-Chief. “Playing” meant having fun and getting more involved in student life, while fueling my passion for photography and graphic design.

“Pausing” meant stopping to evaluate life, and creating a yearbook made me pause for reflection. I am proud of each instant that we captured, crafting a time capsule of experiences.

Lastly, “Rewinding” allowed me to look back on the whole process and realize how building a yearbook from the ground up takes an enormous amount of commitment, persistence, and vision.”
