Live Concert to Celebrate Brazilian Music at Harrison Public Library

A Brazilian concert presented by Sue Maskaleris on the influences of Brazilian music on American ragtime on August 8, 2016.

Celebrate Brazil - Home of the 2016 Summer Olympics!

Jazz artist Sue Maskaleris presents a lively music program on the similarities between American ragtime and "chorinho," a Brazilian music style from the 1800's. With her talented Rio-born partner Itaiguara on guitar and string bass, they then take us through samba and bossa nova. Some American standards are included.

Pianist/singer and composer/lyricist Sue Maskaleris has worked in NYC and abroad. Her two CDs have garnered critical praise and airplay, her latest one debuting at No. 3 in the US on NPR Jazz and College Radio Charts. Her compositions have won many worldwide contests, including the Thelonious Monk Composition Competition, where she placed second. Itaiguara tours the world with the living creators of bossa nova: Marcos Valle, Jorge Ben, Roberto Menescal, as well as plays with the “Ella Fitzgerald of Brazil,” Leny Andrade. He is in Sue's group Trio do Rio and leads one of his own as well.

The concert is held at the Halperin Building on 2 Bruce Ave. Harrison, NY on August 8, 2016 at 7:00 pm. This event is FREE and open to the public. Limited seating, arrive early.
