Local Business Owner Starts Purchase College Scholarship

The scholarship, to encourage integrating computer science with film, music or visual art, is being set up by the founder of SummerTech.

The founder of a summer camp at Purchase College has set up a new scholarship fund for undergraduates at the SUNY school.

Steven Fink is the founder of SummerTech, an innovative summer camp experience for children ages 8-17, which is celebrating its 10th year on Purchase’s campus. During the program, students have the choice of taking classes in code, animation, web, or film, gaining computer skills and confidence.

The SummerTech Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled in Purchase College’s School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, majoring or minoring in Mathematics/Computer Science or New Media. Preference will be given to students who integrate computer science with film, music or visual art.

“We’ve been so grateful to find a home at Purchase College,“ Steven Fink said, in a prepared statement. “It’s been exciting to be a part of what goes on here. I’ve been wanting to get more involved for a long time, to be a bigger part of the community, and I can think of no better way than to help grow the technology programs and encourage the fusion of the arts and sciences.”

“We’re grateful to Steven for his dedication to inspiring young people to find and develop their passions in technology,” said Purchase College President Thomas J. Schwarz. “We’re thankful that our partnership with SummerTech has in turn inspired Steven to help support Purchase students as they forge their own paths integrating the arts and technology.”
