Local Children Of Fallen NY Heroes To Throw 1st Pitch At Mets Game
It's the 33rd annual event for Answer The Call, a fund for the families of fallen first responders started by Rusty Staub.

Supporting the families of NYC’s first responders, Answer the Call will host more than 600 beneficiaries at its 33rd Annual Mets Game & Family Night July 19 at Citi Field. Former Met Rusty Staub started the fallen first responder fund in 1985.
The first pitch will be tossed out by children of three recently fallen New York heroes:
- Three children of FDNY Chief Michael Fahy, Rockland native who was killed in the line of duty during a Bronx explosion in September 2016
- Two sons of NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo, Long Island native who was killed in the line of duty during a Bronx shootout in November 2016
- Son of NYPD Detective Joseph Lemm, Westchester native killed in the line of duty by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in December 2015
The New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund, Answer the Call, is a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance and a network of ongoing support to the families of NYC first responders killed in the line of duty. Since its founding in 1985, the fund has distributed over $130 million to hundreds of families across the city in the form of immediate stipends and ongoing financial assistance for as long as the fund has the means to do so. Answer the Call serves as a familial extension by providing an ongoing network of support for beneficiaries with opportunities for enrichment and companionship.
