Manhattanville College Sponsors Reading by Author Edwidge Danticat September 30
Haitian-American Edwidge Danticat, Noted Author, Reads from Her Works of Fiction September 30 at Manhattanville College

Purchase, NY, September 15, 2016 -- Award-winning Haitian-American novelist and short story writer, Edwidge Danticat, will read from her latest work of fiction, answer questions and have a book signing at Manhattanville College on Friday, September 30, 2016.
The reading, sponsored by Manhattanville’s Master in Fine Arts creative writing program, is free and is open to the public. It begins at 7 PM in Reid Hall on the college’s Purchase campus.
Danticat’s books of fiction include: “Breath, Eyes, Memory,” “Krik? Krak!,” “The Farming of Bones,” and “Claire of the Sea Light.” She is also the author of several young adult novels, essays, memoirs, and is the writer/narrator of two films, “Poto Mitan” and “Girl Rising.”

“We look forward with great anticipation to the reading and discussion,” said Lori Soderlind, director of the MFA writing program. “She is a leading writer of fiction today, especially in examining the theme of national identity and mother-daughter relationships.”
Danticat’s recognition within the literary world includes a Pushcart Short Story Prize, two National Book Award nominations, American Book Award, MacArthur Fellows Program genius grant, Dayton Literary Peace Prize, Langston Hughes Medal, and Smith College and Yale University honorary degrees.

There will be a 5:30 PM “open house” at Barat House for prospective students who are interested in learning more about the MFA Program in Creative Writing.
