From Mayor Ron Belmont
On Monday, May 27 th , the Town of Harrison honored those men and women who sacrificed their lives for the liberties we enjoy today. This year’s Memorial Day parade and ceremony was a wonderful tribute to fallen servicemen and women who courageously served in the armed forces and lost their lives. Ben DeFonce, U.S.M.C. Ret., Harrison’s Commissioner of Veteran’s Affairs, should be commended for organizing this wonderful event. Our honored guests, from various military branches, gave heartfelt speeches, describing what active service has meant to them. It was a day to remember the fallen, as we acknowledge our freedom, and it was an honor to be part of this special occasion.
On a related note, I would like to take this time to recognize the Downtown, West Harrison and Purchase Fire Departments. All three Departments recently held their annual Memorial Day Ceremonies in remembrance of their members and fallen heroes. The ceremonies were respectful and did a wonderful job honoring all Americans who have died while in service to our country.

As you enjoy the outdoors, I hope you have an opportunity to notice this year’s spring plantings. Many gardens were installed this year in both Downtown Harrison and West Harrison. In Downtown Harrison, Ma Riis Park, Petti John Park and Brentwood Park benefited from the generosity and hard work of volunteers. In West Harrison, the 911 Memorial, the Passidomo Monument, the Village Square clock and the entrance to Passidomo Park have also been decorated with beautiful plantings. The Harrison Beautification Foundation, Inc. has supplied flowers and I would like to thank Foundation members Denise DiBiasi and Helen Pesce, as well as town personnel, for their dedication and commitment to beautifying our community.
Additional gardens are ready to be planted.

I would like to take this time to recognize our 10 and under Boys Baseball Team! The team recently won the Diamond Buddies Tournament held in Ardsley. Congrats to the boys and to their Coaches on a job well done.
Each year, The American Cancer Society holds a fundraiser, Relay for Life, to support the organization. It’s an annual, global event and is staffed and coordinated by volunteers. Team members raise money by taking turns walking around a track, or designated path, for an extended period of time.
This year, our community is joining the fight against cancer at Harrison High School June 8 th from 2PM to 9:30PM. Teams can sign up at www.relayforlife.org/HarrisonN... . I encourage all residents to support this worthwhile event.
In closing, I hope you are enjoying this warm late-spring weather. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call or stop in to Town Hall. I am eager to hear your thoughts and suggestions and my door is always open.
The next “Lunch with the Mayor” is on Friday, June 14 th and I will be at Aria Asian Fusion located at 385 Halstead Ave. in Downtown Harrison. I will be at this location from 12:30 to 1:30 and look forward to meeting with residents and talking about issues facing our community.
