Mayor Ron Belmont also reports on the budget.

From Mayor Ron Belmont
Happy New Year! I hope all Harrison residents had a relaxing and happy holiday. I want to thank you for your support over the last year. The Town Board has accomplished many things and I look forward to seeing what the Board and Town personnel can accomplish, together, in 2019. As we begin the New Year, I am happy to report that Harrison continues to build on the success of the last few years while keeping tax increases in check, sustaining a healthy reserve and maintaining all our basic municipal services. In addition to our outstanding bond rating from Moody’s, Harrison’s 2019 Budget was adopted and remains under Governor Cuomo’s mandated tax cap. Advancing this positive trajectory is a priority and I look forward to the wonderful opportunities in the year ahead.
It gives me great pleasure to give a special thank you to all those who contributed to this year’s Holiday Project. Many residents, and their families, were treated to a Christmas filled with gifts and holiday cheer. The generosity and hard work of the project committee, and their team of volunteers, deserves recognition and I am happy to acknowledge their efforts.

I am happy to report that four new police officers have joined the Harrison Police Department. The officers were sworn in at a January 4, 2019 ceremony in Town Hall. The new officers will complete their training before receiving their assignments. I am completely confident that these new officers will carry out their duties in a professional manner and will be an asset to the Town/Village of Harrison.
Please be aware of the following sanitation notice: Christmas trees may be placed curbside, for pick-up, through January 31 st . Please do not place trees (or wreathes/roping) in plastic bags.

As I am sure you are all well aware, flu season is underway and our local hospitals are coping with the surge of patients exhibiting flu like symptoms. The best protection may be to get the flu shot each year as the vaccine effectively combats many flu strains. As we get through this season, please use the recommended steps to prevent the spread of germs associated with the flu: wash hands frequently and cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
Our library staff has been hard at work developing winter activities for all residents. Be sure to save the date for Harrison Public Library’s “An Evening with Author Jamie Ford” taking place on Wednesday, February 6 th at 7 PM at Harrison High School. The Library is delighted to welcome this bestselling author to Harrison. Jamie Ford wrote the bestselling, award winning novel Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, which was awarded the Asian Pacific American Award for Literature and was on the New York Times bestseller list for over two years. Ford’s second novel, Songs of Willow Frost, was also a New York Times best seller, and has also been a favorite among community reading programs. Ford’s latest work, Love and Other Consolation Prizes, was published by Ballantine in September 2017 and was released in paperback in May 2018. Inspired by true events, Ford returns to themes of identity and belonging familiar to his readers. This free program is open to the public and will be hosted by Harrison High School.
