(Town of Harrison)

From Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont

The Town/Village of Harrison Department of Public Works is pleased to introduce our new online sanitation and recycling tool. Through our partnership with Sustainable Westchester , the tool will allow you to view the pickup schedule for your address. The tool will also allow you to receive automated notifications about upcoming pickups or important schedule changes. Notifications will be made by email, text, phone or through a mobile app available for both iPhone and Android.
Search for “Westchester Trash & Recycling” in your app store or follow the following links: Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS).

If you’ve ever wondered how to dispose of a specific item, our new tool has a great feature called Recyclopedia. Search through hundreds of items to find out the proper way to dispose of it. How should you dispose of a mattress? What about plastic grocery bags? Just search the Recylopedia for the answer! Visit https://manage.recollect.net/r/area/WestchesterNY# or the Town's website today. Just enter your address to get started! If you would like help signing up, please contact DPW at 914-670-3100.

Adding plants, flowers and shrubs is a wonderful way to emphasize an important part of a business establishment. I would like to bring your attention to Silver Lake Café, located at Taylor Square in West Harrison, and 273 Kitchen, on Halstead Avenue, in Downtown Harrison. Both restaurants have invested in beautifying their storefronts, thereby demonstrating a commitment to the community in which they do business. I applaud their efforts and appreciate their good will.

August is upon us and I hope you are all keeping cool as the heat index rises. Although we have had rainfall this season, I would like to urge all residents to conserve water whenever possible. Currently, there is no emergency water restriction for the Town/Village of Harrison but I want to insure that we will have an adequate water supply in the future. One practice that I would encourage all residents to consider is to water lawns, trees, shrubbery and gardens after nightfall and before 2 AM. This will prevent water loss due to evaporation.

Should the Town of Harrison’s water demand increase to levels that put water quality or fire protection in jeopardy, stricter water use restrictions may be required.

I’m happy to report that Harrison was highlighted in College Factual’s 2019 Best Colleges for International Students ranking.
