As the summer comes to a close, many of you may be hitting the road for a final getaway. I would like to bring your attention to a scam website, which comes up in many web searches, called “US Hold Mail.” It’s located at www.usholdmail.com .

It looks very official, but requires an “activation fee” of $9.99 after you enter your info. United States Post Offices have an online “hold mail” form and it’s FREE of charge. The correct site to use for this service is www.holdmail.usps.com .

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending this year’s annual Senior Picnic in West Harrison. The weather cooperated with plenty of sunshine as our seniors enjoyed a day of fun and friendship. The menu included hamburgers and hot dogs as well as chicken cutlets, sausage and peppers, salads and more. It was a great success and I enjoyed seeing familiar friends and new faces at this highly anticipated yearly event.

I would like to draw your attention to two Harrison restaurants that have added flowers and greenery to their storefronts: Quenas Restaurant located at 109 Halstead Avenue and Piero’s Restaurant located at 123 Halstead Avenue. These improvements foster an environment where businesses thrive and residents, and visitors alike, can enjoy all that our central business districts have to offer. I appreciate the effort and look forward to seeing additional upgrades in our commercial areas.
