Here's what's going on in Harrison, from Mayor Ron Belmont

From Mayor Ron Belmont
In looking ahead, and thinking about the spring with great anticipation, I would like to bring your attention to this year’s annual Spring Spruce Up event. Please join the Town/Village of Harrison by coming out to show your support on Saturday, March 30th. We will be tidying up our roadways, parks, wooded areas and streams. Target areas in Downtown Harrison include Ma Riis Park, Veteran’s Park, the stream behind LMK Middle School, Beaver Swamp Brook Corridor, Century Trail and West Street (in the vicinity of the I-95 Bridge). Target areas in West Harrison include various locations around Silver Lake and Underhill Avenue, Locust Avenue, Main Street River corridor and the Village Green. Feel free to contact the Mayor’s Office with additional areas that may need attention.
Clean up crew leaders will be at all locations and will provide lawn bags and instructions for sprucing up. Come full of energy and prepared to make a difference. For more information or to volunteer, please call my office at (914) 670-3009 or stop in to Town Hall. Take pride in Harrison’s appearance and pitch in!!

On Sunday, March 3rd, I had the pleasure of attending the opening reception, in Town Hall, for Youth Art Month. This year, Harrison’s talented students have exhibited works of art that include an array of mediums and all are exceptional examples of the talent in our school community. Students from our public school system are participating in this year’s exhibit and should be commended for their extraordinary achievements. This event would not be possible without the commitment of the Harrison Council for the Arts and the dedication of devoted teachers. The next time you visit Town Hall, please take some time to enjoy the beautiful exhibits placed in the foyer and hanging on the walls throughout the building.
I would like to congratulate all those involved with the Harrison High School Footlight Players recent performance of “Me and My Gal”. I was able to attend a performance and the production value in everything from set decoration to choreography, and songs, was outstanding. The energetic cast complemented the music selections and the incredible talent was enjoyed by all. Well done, cast and crew, and a special congratulations to all the faculty members for their hard work and dedication.

I would like to recognize the Harrison 7th grade girls’ TCB basketball team. They finished an extraordinary season and recently won the Tri-County Basketball League championship tournament. The team performed with exceptional skill and fought valiantly in the championship game. I’m sure that coaches, parents and fans could not be prouder of the effort the girls made this season. They are a talented group of young women and were outstanding representatives of the young athletes in our community. Congratulations to all!
Harrison is fortunate to have a variety of excellent pre-school programs. To avoid the rush, please be aware that our area pre-schools are currently accepting applications for families interested in the fall 2019 programs (2019-2020 school year). To avoid being excluded, contact any one of our excellent early childhood organizations (Harrison Children’s Center, St. Gregory the Great, Webster Avenue Nursery School, Harrison Presbyterian Nursery School, Purchase Children’s Center, and Memorial Community Church Nursery School, to name a few).
The next “Lunch with the Mayor” is on Friday, March 15th and I will be at Harrison Pizza, located at 248 Halstead Avenue in Harrison. On Friday, March 22 nd , I will be at Hal’s Deli located at 295 Halstead Avenue in Downtown Harrison. I will be at these locations from 12:30 to 1:30 and look forward to meeting with residents and talking about issues facing our community.
