Purchase College Presents Award-Winning Authors

SUNY will host A Conversation with Neil Gaiman and Michael Chabon on Monday, March 5, 2018, at 4:30 p.m.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Humanities Theatre at Purchase College (735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, NY). Featuring what promises to be a lively exchange between two witty and insightful writers, the program is a highlight of this season's Durst Distinguished Lecture Series.

Michael Chabon is the best-selling and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of many books, including The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Wonder Boys, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, and The Yiddish Policemen’s Union. Chabon was named the 2017-2018 Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Chair in Literature and has presented highly engaging programs at Purchase College.

Neil Gaiman is the award-winning author of novels, novellas, short stories, comics, and more, including American Gods, which won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards and has been adapted into a Starz television series; The Graveyard Book, which won the Newbery Medal and the Carnegie Medal; and The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

“The Purchase community has had the pleasure of getting to know Michael over the last semester, and both students and faculty can't wait for Neil Gaiman to join him on the stage,” said Anthony Domestico, assistant professor of literature at Purchase College. “I've long admired, and often taught, Gaiman's beautifully constructed and imaginatively exhilarating stories. He's also one of our students' most beloved authors. What a rare chance to be able to listen in as two wonderful writers, and two good friends, engage in conversation.”

The Durst Distinguished Lecture Series and the Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Chair in Literature are funded by the Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Chair in Literature Endowment. The mission of the Durst programs is to infuse the experience and intellect of leading writers into the Purchase and Westchester communities, while providing diverse opportunities for these writers to interact with students and influence campus life.

Upcoming programs this spring will feature contemporary authors Rachel Aviv and Porochista Khakpour.
